Position Summary: The Food Equity Manager will ensure our merchants have the information, technical support, equipment, and ongoing advocacy needed to maximize food equity across the market system. This role serves as a liaison between the realities of our merchant’s business operations and the policies related to food access. This position must be comfortable collaborating with existing and potential partners, be familiar with existing food-related policies and have experience working in historically under resourced communities.
Responsibilities:
· Understand and stay up to date with all technical aspects, policy, programming, and technological trends for SNAP, matching programs, and WIC programs available to our merchants. Includes working with state and local agencies and other food access partners.
· Conduct outreach to determine the appropriate role for the markets in Baltimore’s food access ecosystem.
· Collaborate with the Director of Market Development to inform/develop educational materials, programming, promotions, and evaluation of food access programs.
· Identify and nurture potential partnerships to maximize access to healthy options for the neighborhoods where the markets are located.
· Collaborate with Manager of Communications to promote the markets as a resource to access affordable healthy food options.
· Establish food equity goals for Baltimore Public Markets and monitor legislative developments that relate to advancing those goals.
· Represent the organization at meetings, conferences and events related to food equity.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work or Community Development.
· Knowledge of food systems, food justice and social determinants of health.
· Strong interpersonal skills.
· Previous experience designing or leading community-based programs a plus.
· Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
· Extremely organized and detail oriented.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
· Team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to move around the facility to conduct training sessions.
· Capable of demonstrating physical security techniques.
· Must be able to stand for extended periods.
· Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
